Read Advice from 13 Moms about Question ‘How to get my 3-year-old to take medicine

My little boy had a pretty high fever the other night, and we went through hell trying to get some tylenol in him. No one was happy with how it went, but we really felt like we had to do it. Does anyone have any ideas about how to make it less painful?

Recently, my son has been sick with the typical cold type virus going around. He also had an ear infection and went on amoxicillin. He did fine with it until about 7 days in to it he broke out in a rash on his bottom and then the next day on his cheeks. He already did have a bit of eczema all over his body. I took him to the dr. and he said it didn't look like an allergic reaction to anything, but could just be a flare up of eczema. But then a couple days later, my when he woke up, he had hives all over his thighs. We had finished the amoxicillin 2 days before that, but I was now taking it for a sinus infection, so he was still getting some from breastfeeding. And he has been breaking out in hives for 2 days now on and off through the day. So I did a short trial of just giving him formula instead of breastmilk and that didn't seem to make a difference, he's not breaking out right after I feed him, it seems pretty random. So my initial thoughts of the hives being due to an allergic reaction to amoxicillin does not seem to be true. I also stopped giving him solid food for the time being, he wasn't that in to it yet anyway. I called my Dr. office when he first broke out in hives, and they said that if it happens once or twice it was ok, but if it persists then they want to know about it. Well of course it is now a weekend and have to wait until Monday to call them again. He doesn't have a fever, and he's not overdressed to become overheated. Has anyone experienced these kinds of symptoms with their child? Is it an allergy? Or is he just still fighting off this virus?

Read Advice from 36 Moms about Question ‘Vaccinations

I am looking for information on the MMR and Varivax vaccinations. My daughter just had here 1yr shots and has been sick ever since with a low grade fever, irritability, and sleeplessness. I took her back to the doctor and he was not concerned in the least. He stated that a fever can develop 7 to 10 days after the shots and continue for a month!!! She had a fever the very next day. I am at a loss. I have been giving her IBprofin and tylenol everyday to keep her comfortable and don't feel like she should have so much medicine. Has anyone had this problem with shots?? I didn't think that having my child vaccinated would make her sick everytime. I feel like not getting it done. Can anyone give me some insight? HELP!! Thank you.

Read Advice from 52 Moms about Question ‘My son repeatedly keeps getting sick

I have an 11 year old son. He just started middle school this year and is making good grades. He keeps getting sick over and over. His symptoms last about a week and always are at the end of the month. He is weak, nauseated, sore throat, headache, chest congestion/chest pain and most of all aches all over. He has been to the doctor each time. Usually it is a sinus infection or bronchitis,or a virus. It has not been the flu or strep and he has had no fever or neck pain, but I think they are mostly viruses. We took him in yesterday and she did bloodwork to check for mono/anemia, etc. I think his immune system is down and he is just picking up every little bug out there. I just think it is weird that is is cyclical. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thank you.

Read Advice from 61 Moms about Question ‘Infant Congestion

My 5 month old son has been constantly congested for 2 months, and it has turned into two ear infections so far. He carries a fever of 100 - 102 with it, and it has only somewhat disipated during his constant antibiotics rounds. I hate having him on medication constantly, and would much prefer a different remedy, but NOTHING IS WORKING. The following have become daily regimines: humidifier, saline spray follwed by aspirator (about 5 times a day), steam shower with menthol salts to fill steamy air, increased fluid intake.

Anything else?!?!?!?

I have gotten some GREAT responses! The Vicks on the feet is intersting btseems to help a little more. I have also had the idea of maybe allergies, but I can't stand the idea of having him on medication every day. Im fine with medication to treat symptoms, but a daily regimine bothers me. Will his body eventually get used to allergens or do I need to get used to medicine?
