I have a 13 month old daughter who has a milk allergy. She is exclusively breastfed, and never took the bottle (no matter how many times we tried). She does take water out of a cup with a straw. I'd like to wean her. We're limited on formula's due to her milk allergy. We've tried soy formula, peptamen junior (had allergic reaction) and now elecare. She's okay with taking a sip here and there(either a sigg water bottle or a nuby bottle with handles) , but will not drink enough for me to wean her. I don't know what the problem is - taste, cup, etc. Any suggestions?
We thought that my daughter was lactose intolerant when she was about a month old (it turned out to be reflux), so we put her on soy formula. She's been on soy since then, but because she is nearing a year old and cow's milk will become a part of her diet, I thought I would try her on milk based formula. I gave her a bottle of it, and she didn't like it at all. Does anyone know if I can I mix her soy with the milk based to ease her into the new flavor?
I'm asking this for my little brother--his son is 10 months old and at about 8 weeks his pedi put him on soy formula because he was spitting up so much and having bad gas issues. Well by 4 months old they realized something else was wrong...he broke out in a horrible rash and nothing they did made it go away. They took him to an allergist and it turned out he was allergic to soy. So they switched him back to similac sensitive and the rash cleared up. Last week it came back...my brother noticed that his formula has soy oil in it and he checked the ingredients on every formula they had at Target...they all have it. I asked him if there was anything else he could have eaten that might have had more soy than normal that could have caused it and other than bread, which he's been eating for awhile now, my brother couldn't think of anything. I've also suggested they go back to the allergist and have him tested for other things.
Has anyone else dealt with this? What is the best formula to use? Should he just go ahead and switch to cow's milk or is it too early still? He is going to call the pedi tonight but he probably won't hear anything until tomorrow so I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone else has any info...
My daughter was born 6-11. She pooped fine in the hospital the first night but after that it tapered off. She pooped Friday as we were leaving the hospital and then nothing until Sunday (Father's Day). I finally called the doc Monday afternoon and they said they'd like to see her the next day. So we go in and they put her on soy formula. That wasn't surprising because my whole family is lactose intolerant and Emme (the older one) was on soy also for constipation. So we started her on soy the next feeding she had- hoping and praying that it would help. She just pooped today for the first time. So in a week she's only pooped 3 times. I'm positive that's not "just how she is" because she's in TONS of pain after she eats. She just get sooooooooooo upset. We give her gas drops but those only help so much. We do bicycle legs, warm baths, tummy massage, and molasses. (We were told to only use molasses.) Nothing is working. I hate seeing her like this! She just needs to poop! I'm at a loss of what to do. They said give the formula change a week and then call if it's not better but I feel so horrible leaving her in pain until next
my 7 week old seems to always be hungry. he is on soy formula and i am trying to stretch him to three hrs between feedings. he is taking like 7ozs a shot and it is a struggle to stretch him between the three hrs. at night we started putting a little cereal into his formula but he is still getting up early. any ideas would be greatly appreciated or advice!
